LIVE Sexual assault outside Crewe asylum hotel

Cheshire Police are investigating the sexual assault of a teenage girl, which occurred outside an asylum hotel in Crewe on Wednesday 24 September.

Around 6pm, officers attended The Royal Hotel, Nantwich Road, and arrested a 25-year-old man 20 minutes later in connection with the incident.

The man remains in police custody at this time.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing, with the incident recorded and circulating on social media.

The footage appears to show the man slapping the teenager twice, including on her bottom.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "We are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and officers are in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

Libyan man charged following sexual assault outside Crewe asylum hotel

Cheshire Police have charged a Libyan man with sexual assault, following an incident outside The Royal Hotel in Crewe.

Taha Derwish, of Nantwich Road, was arrested on Wednesday 24 September, following an incident involving a teenage girl.

The 25-year-old, who is of Libyan nationality, has since been charged with sexual touching.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday 26 September.

Cheshire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Derwish are now active and that he has a right to a fair trial.

MP issues statement following Crewe sexual assault arrest

MP for Crewe and Nantwich, Connor Naismith, has issued a statement following arrest of a man for sexually assaulting a teenage girl outside an asylum hotel in Crewe.

Around 6pm on Wednesday 24 September, Cheshire Police were called to The Royal Hotel, Nantwich Road, following reports a 14-year-old girl has been sexually assaulted.

20 minutes later, a 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, with enquiries ongoing.

The incident was recorded and circulating on social media, appearing to show the man slapping the teenager twice, including on her bottom. 

The girl's family have requested the footage be removed from social media.

In a statement, Mr Naismith said: "I am aware of footage circulating online relating to a male and a young female outside the Royal Hotel on Nantwich Road in Crewe.

"I want to be clear that the safety of women and girls on our streets is of paramount importance to me, and I will always speak out and act where necessary to ensure those who perpetrate abuse feel the full force of the law.

"Upon seeing the footage late last night, I immediately contacted the Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Dan Price, who informed me that an arrest had been made and that action is being taken.

Connor Naismith MP said the safety of women and girls on our streets is of 'paramount importance' to him (Connor Naismith MP).

"He reassured me that both the PCC and Chief Constable of Cheshire Police are clear: It doesn't matter who you are, if you commit a crime in Cheshire, you will be dealt with by the authorities.

"I am also aware that the family of the victim of this incident have asked that the footage is removed from social media channels. I reiterate their ask that their privacy is respected."
